Trust in God Foundation of Self-Confidence
According to one definition, self-confidence means belief in one’s abilities and talents based on Tawakkul (trust in God).
Man, in view of the Holy Quran, is a very precious being with high capabilities and potentials although using them requires one’s resolve and efforts.
One who lacks self-confidence cannot fully benefit from his talents and capabilities and will end up suffering from frustration, depression, and failure. Such a person cannot reach success even if everything is prepared and he has enough time for it.
But a faithful person, who believes in God as the main supporter of all human beings, trusts his capabilities and capacities. That is why he resists Satan’s temptations and avoids laziness and engagement in pointless activities.
The more we have Tawakkul and trust in God, the more our self-confidence will be and we will certainly achieve success. God says in verse 139 of Surah Al-Imran: “Do not be discouraged or grieved. You alone will have true dignity if you only are true believers.”
A review of the verses of the Holy Quran and Hadiths from Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) shows us that we can reach and strengthen our self-confidence with Tawakkul. One who relies on God instead of his limited power, will be strengthened spiritually and mentally and can endure problems and difficulties in life and raise his psychological health level.
God has created man superior and wants his superiority to be maintained: “We have honored the children of Adam, carried them on the land and the sea, given them pure sustenance and exalted them above most of My creatures.” (Verse 70 of Surah Al-Isra)
God has given this dignity and advantage to all human beings and provided them with necessary capacities and talents. So mankind can reach his rational and logical desires by making efforts and enhancing his self-confidence.
